EVAC VARSITY GIRLS BASKETBALL – STATE CHAMPIONS!

History was made yesterday at Desert Financial Arena as our EVAC Varsity Girls Basketball team battled their way to a CAA Division 2 State Championship, defeating Imagine Prep Surprise 43-38 in a thrilling back-and-forth contest.

But this victory was more than just a game—it was a testament to the heart, resilience, and community that defines EVAC.

From the opening tip-off, it was clear that our girls were up against a formidable opponent. Shots weren’t falling as they normally do, and each possession became a grind. But what set our team apart was their ability to increase their energy and effort every single quarter. And that wasn’t by accident—it was because of YOU—our incredible EVAC students, families, and cheerleaders who filled multiple sections of the arena and brought an atmosphere. It was fun!

The momentum shifted with just over a minute left in the game. EVAC was down by one, and Imagine had the ball under their own basket.

• Noelle Kutz came up with a clutch double-team steal, then another after a missed shot to keep the pressure on Imagine.

• Lilly Ortman grabbed a crucial offensive rebound, keeping possession alive when it mattered most.

• Addi Ortman delivered in the biggest moment of the game, hitting a go-ahead three-pointer with 36 seconds left, sending the EVAC crowd into a frenzy!

• Full-court pressure for the first time all game forced yet another turnover, and from that moment on, EVAC never let Imagine get back in control.

• Noelle and Addi both knocked down key free throws in the final seconds, sealing the win and securing the State Championship title!

For over a minute of game time, our girls kept the ball on our side of the court, forcing turnovers, grabbing rebounds, and scoring six unanswered points to close out the victory. It was a display of heart, teamwork, and an unshakable belief in each other.

To our fans, families, and cheerleaders—you were the difference-maker. Your relentless energy lifted our girls when they needed it most. You turned Desert Financial Arena into an EVAC home game, and our team felt your support every second of the way. This championship belongs to ALL of us.
