General Information:

EVAC offers cross country for high school boys and girls, and track & field for junior high and high school boys and girls. 

Cross Country

 

Season: Cross Country practices begin Tuesday, Aug. 13 with meets likely starting the first week in September. The regular season ends in mid-October with postseason taking place the last few weeks in October. Cross Country is composed of one event: a 5K race (approximately 3.1 miles).

Ages: Cross Country is available for high school students only. Students must be 18 years or younger as of August 31.

 

Tryouts: Cross Country tryouts will be held in July. High school girls must be able to run a 5K in 30 minutes or less and high school boys must be able to run a 5k in 28 minutes or less. 

All athletes MUST complete EVAC Registration prior to season start.  Please make sure athletes register in the correct age category (HS).  A physical is required.  After registering, registrants will be contacted for further info.

Practices: EVAC’s varsity cross country teams practice at Freestone Park (Guadalupe/Val Vista, 1045 E Juniper Ave, Gilbert, AZ 85234) on T, Th, and F mornings from 6:45-8 AM. No practice on Mondays, Wednesdays, or Sundays. Once the season starts, athletes will have no more than three to four combined events or practices per week.

Meets: Meets mostly occur on Saturday mornings (sometimes on a weekday night) at locations throughout the Valley, and occasionally outside of the Valley. Athletes must participate in five meets to qualify for the State Meet. 

Cost: Estimated fees are $275 plus a uniform fee if athletes do not already own one from past participation.

 

Track & Field

Season: Track & Field practices will begin for high school in early February.  The JH season is slightly shorter beginning at the end of February.  Both conclude with state championships in early May.

 

Athletes may participate in the following events: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1600m, 3200m, 100m/110m hurdles, 300m hurdles, 4x100 relay, 4x800m relay, shot put, discus, javelin (athlete must buy own javelin, long jump, triple jump.

 

Ages: Track is available for junior high and high school students provided there are enough coaches. High school teams are targeted for high school students in grades 9-12.  Students must be 18 years or younger as of August 31. Junior High teams are targeted for junior school students in grades 6-8.  Students cannot be 15 years old before Sept. 1.

Practices:  JH & HS track athletes will practice together 2-3 times each week. Practices will likely be split between a local park and a local track.

 

Meets:   

 

For HS, meets begin in mid-March and end with the state meet in early May. There will be about 10 meets and they will be split between Saturdays and weekdays. Meets tend to be about 4-6 hours long. Students are expected to participate in a minimum of 5 meets during the season.

For JH, meets start in mid to late March and end with the state meet in early May. The CAA held 7 regular meets last year. Two were on weekdays and the rest were on Saturday. Students are expected to participate in a minimum of 4 meets during the season.

Clinics: 

Track & Field Clinic - open to athletes interested in participating in track and field in spring of 2025.

When:  Friday, June 21 from 8-9:30 AM

Where: Valley Christian High School, 6900 W Galveston St, Chandler, AZ 85226

Cost: JH and HS fees will be approximately $275-$300 including the purchase of a uniform by each athlete if athletes do not already own one from past participation. Specific equipment may also be required and will be communicated at the season start.

Coaches: All coaches are volunteers, certified, and meet CAA coaching standards. If you are interested in coaching, please contact the Athletic Director.
