General Information:

EVAC offers cross country and track & field for junior high and high school boys and girls

Season: Cross Country practices begin Aug. 1 with meets starting third week in August. The regular season ends in mid-October with postseason taking place the last few weeks in October.  

 

Track & Field practices will begin for HS February 8 with the season ending May 11.  The JH season is slightly shorter beginning February 29 and ending May 11.

 

Ages: High school teams are targeted for high school students in grades 9-12.  Students must be 18 years or younger as of August 31. Junior High teams are targeted for junior school students in grades 6-8.  Students cannot be 15 years old before Sept. 1. 

 

Tryouts: All athletes MUST complete EVAC 2023-2024 Registration prior to season start.  Please make sure athletes register in the correct age category (JH or HS).  A physical is required.  Tryouts are not necessary for cross country or track & field. After registering, registrants will be contacted for further info.

 

Clinics: Clinics may be offered during the off-season or summer in preparation for the fall season for cross country.

Practices: 

 

Cross Country:  Practice locations vary from year to year. Practice duration will vary based on age/team. No practice on Wednesdays or Sundays. Once the season starts, JH teams will have no more than three to four combined events or practices per week and high school no more than four to five per week.

 

Track & Field:  JH & HS track athletes will practice together.  The 2023-24 practice schedule/locations is as follows:

  • Tuesday, 3:30-5 PM at Freestone Park (Guadalupe/Val Vista, 1045 E Juniper Ave, Gilbert, AZ 85234)

  • Thursday, 6:45-8 AM at the outdoor track of Freemont Junior High (Brown/202, 1001 N Power Rd, Mesa, AZ 85205)

  • Friday, 6:45-8 AM the outdoor track of Freemont Junior High 

 

Track & Field Events:  Athletes may participate in the following events:  100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1600m, 3200m, 100m/110m hurdles, 300m hurdles, 4x100 relay, 4x800m relay, shot put, discus, javelin (athlete must buy own javelin), high jump (TBD depending on location of practice), long jump, triple jump.

Track & Field Meets:  

 

For HS, meets begin in mid-March and end with the state meet on May 3-4. There will be about 10 meets and they will be split between Saturdays and weekdays. Meets tend to be about four hours long. Students are expected to participate in a minimum of 5 meets during the season.

For JH, meets start in mid to late March for junior high and end with the state meet on May 10-11. The CAA held 7 regular meets last year. Two were on weekdays and the rest were on Saturday. Students are expected to participate in a minimum of 4 meets during the season.

Cost:

 

(Cross Country):  Athletes will pay a team fee at the beginning of the season followed by a $15 per meet charge. Estimated fees are $170.

 

(Track & Field):  JH fees will be $200 or more and HS $275 or more including the purchase of a uniform by each athlete.  Specific equipment may also be required and will be communicated at the season start.

 

Coaches: All coaches are volunteers, certified, and meet CAA coaching standards. If you are interested in coaching please contact the Athletic Director.
