Since the inception of East Valley Athletes for Christ, we've relied on renting facilities by the hour or per use, whenever available. This will continue for the 2024/2025 sports seasons, but we have an exciting update: we've signed a contract to use the Mesa Baptist Church gym on Mondays and Fridays from 3 PM to 10 PM. Most of our court sport home games will now be scheduled at this location on these days.
We are incredibly grateful to Mesa Baptist Church for their generosity in providing us with unprecedented access, especially given the challenges we've faced with Arizona Athletic Grounds. However, we have a bigger vision for EVAC: we want a place to call our own.
At this year's EVAC banquet, our President of the Board, Pat Mehan, announced that significant steps have been taken towards making this dream a reality. We've initiated conversations with churches, Christian schools, and other non-profits to explore partnerships for building a dedicated facility. This facility would be shared, with EVAC using it exclusively when it's not in use by our partner organization.
While these discussions have been promising, we face a significant challenge: the cost. Building a facility requires raising several million dollars. Despite the daunting nature of this task, we believe it is a worthy endeavor to pursue as we strive to "encourage the hearts and minds of the homeschool youth in the love and likeness of Christ." We are taking active steps: praying, developing architectural drawings and renderings (seen here), and officially launching a fundraising campaign for this cause.
