High School Boys basketball

Teams offered

Varsity | 16u JV | Frosh

Ages

Teams are aimed at high school students in grades 9-12. Students must be 18 years or younger as of August 31. Coaches determine the team size and roster. The best players, regardless of age, are typically placed on the Varsity Team. The next best players, who are 16 years old or younger before August 31, are placed on the 16u JV team. Freshmen or sophomores who are not on the Varsity or JV teams are typically placed on the Frosh team.

Season dates

Practices begin the last week in October with regular season games beginning the third week of November and the season runs through the beginning of February. Post season tournament play runs through the first few weeks of February.

tournaments

EVAC basketball teams participate in a variety of types of tournaments before, during, and after the season. Tournament participation varies due to age level, coach availability, and cost.  While some tournaments are local, all EVAC basketball teams travel to California for March Gladness. Varsity and JV teams have also traditionally participated in the Western District Tournament (local) and NCHBC National Homeschool Tournament in Missouri.

tryouts

All athletes MUST complete EVAC 2024-2025 Registration prior to tryouts.

Tryouts are often the first week or two of October. 2024/2025 tentative tryouts are set for 10/07/2024 and 10/11/2024 from 8pm to 10pm and at Mesa Baptist.

PRACTICES

Practice locations are TBD. Practice duration will be approximately 2 hours long three to four times per week after school hours. We work to limit practices on Wednesdays and do not hold practices on Sundays. Once the season starts, teams will have no more than four to five games or practices per week.

Clinics

Most clinics and tryouts take place in the weeks/month leading up to season start. Check the Announcements page and subscribe to the Announcements to know when those are scheduled.

Commitment

The Varsity and 16u JV teams are competitive interscholastic teams. As a result, those teams carry a higher level of commitment. Below is a list of a few of the commitments those teams require.

  • 100% attendance to all practices and games.

  • Practices and games will start in October and take place on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and some Saturdays. Most home games will be Mondays and Fridays.

  • Arrive to practices and games early. Late attendance will not be accepted.

  • 100% attendance to all post-season tournaments.

  • This includes but is not limited to CAA state tournament games in February, and a potential NCHBC National tournament in Missouri in the middle of March.

  • Weekly in-season self-directed training with accountability.

  • Once a month team meal, film session, and devotional.

  • Periodic attendance to Varsity Girls practices for practice support, fellowship, and time of prayer.

  • Parent volunteer roles are evenly split among ALL parents.

  • Profanity and poor attitudes will not be tolerated.

Costs

There are typically three fees for each season: team fees, uniform fees, and tournament fees. Team fees include CAA league fee, estimated costs for facilities and referees, and insurance and other administrative costs. Uniforms are player-owned, meaning that at the start of each season, players that are rostered are required to purchase a uniform to be a part of the team, but the uniform is then owned by the player and is the player's responsibility. If the player is a returning player for that team and the uniforms have not changed, the player can use the same uniform from the previous season. Tournaments are a separate cost vary based on the tournament location.

Below is a rough estimate of what costs could look like.
$750 team fee, $100 uniforms, $300 tournaments

Coaches

All coaches are volunteers, certified, and meet CAA coaching standards. If you are interested in coaching please contact the Athletic Director at ad@evacsports.org.
